Woo-woo! Lots of new things!

My website (and soon this blog) has a brand new look :)
You'll have to let me know what you think!

Also, I swore I never would and I totally just did. I joined Twitter. I so don't get it and can't quite figure it out, but I'm trying to get all 2012 on the social media schtuffs. Something about marketing and all that.

I also got the new Canon Mark 5d III. It is glorious. I am in love. That is all, lol.

Springfield, IL Engagement Session

It was exciting to shoot in a completely new location: Lincoln Memorial Gardens in Springfield, IL. I love fall engagement shoots- the colors are amazing. Here's a preview of some of Mandy's pics. Enjoy!

Jessica's Senior Pics

It's been a few weeks back, but I'm finally getting around to posting Jessica's Senior Pics. We had great weather for the shoot with great light. St. Charles Main Street is always a great place to shoot because of all the different "scenery" in such close proximity.

Choosing your wedding photographer

The choice of a photographer is an important decision for the bride and groom and should not be solely based on price. There are a lot of great photographers out there in every price range.
Some questions important questions to ask your photographer are:
- How much experience do you have as a wedding photographer? Specifically, how many weddings have you shot or do you shoot on average?
- Do you have any formal photography training, such as photography classes or a photography degree? If not, have you trained with a professional photographer? How long did you train for?
- What program do you use to edit your photographs? (Photoshop is industry standard.) How well do you know how to use this program?
- Do you charge extra for Black and White photos?
- Is it extra for a CD of all of the images? Are the images on that CD full-resolution? (Meaning, is it the full file or a scaled-down file that will not allow enlargements?)
- Do you have any references?
And always, always ask to see work. There should be a mix of older and newer work. An experienced photographer will be able to show you images from more than one or two weddings.
Looking at the picture examples can also help you to determine how much experience the photographer has. Are the whites in the picture "blown out"? (Meaning, can you see detail in the white areas?) Can you clearly see definition and color in the subject or subjects' eyes, or are the eyes obscured by shadow? Look at the skin tones in the photograph. If the skin tones are off in most or all of the photos, then that is a serious issue. Also look for harsh shadows on the subjects. Sometimes shadowing is unavoidable and inevitable, but the proper use of a flash can offset the shadowing. If there are harsh shadows in most or all of the outdoor pictures, then the photographer may not own a full flash or just not know how to use the flash.

Engagement shoots are a great way for the bride and groom to get to know their photographer, and vice-versa. Many photographers offer a complimentary engagement session with wedding packages. Engagement shoots are also a great way for you and your fiancee to take pictures that you'll come to treasure with the passing years.
